The Saya Afro Boliviana is a musical and choreographic expression that is characterized by using some African elements. Originating from the Bolivian Yungas, its rhythm and musical language are classified in verses of civic, religious, and free character, making allusion to the slavery of their ancestors and the different historic happenings in Bolivia.
The “chief” is different from the rest because of his rank representing the hierarchy and order inside the dance.
