PUJLLAY DE TARABUCO

It’s a historic, religious, and pagan event, where the Yampara communities commemorate la Batalla de Jumbate  (Jumbate Battle) that took place on the 12th of March of 1816, where the Spanish were defeated by the indigenous people, who were trying to become independent.

In commemoration of the deaths during the fighting, every year in Tarabuco a mass for their souls is celebrated, followed by a fiesta that commemorates the victory and unites the carnival and there is dancing to the tunes of tokoros, pinkillos, and the curious sound of the spurs attached to their sandals, dancing around the altar or pukara.
